There are three things that can help innovators make changes happen:
Effective Practices, which include picking the right innovations, working with the right people, communicating deliberately, etc;
Empowering Paradigms, which include values, world views, beliefs and narratives that enable us to do the right things in pushing for change; and
Emotional-Physiological conditions that bring out the best performance at the moment.
Practicing effective strategies, using the right tools, adopting the appropriate narrative, being in good emotional and physical condition - all these need to be developed over time, and brought to bear at the right moments.
Because reform opportunities can happen anytime, anywhere. It could take place within a 15-minute car ride with a decision-maker, or a chance meeting in an elevator. In these moments the reformer needs to have the right strategies, attitudes, energy and mood to be convincing.
