Building Communities that Help Themselves

Missio Amare is part of the Catholic community Couples for Christ. It focuses on social development and community service. EnP Niceforo Iroy (Nice to friends) serves as COSHAD (Cooperative, Self-Help Association Development) Coordinator of the organization.

Serving as a Coordinator of Missio Amare has been both a privilege and a profound vocation. While many people willingly receive assistance, our deeper mission and challenge is to cultivate a culture of self-help, cooperation, and shared responsibility, to inspire people to become active participants in their own development - working together, supporting one another, and building sustainable solutions through collective action.

This transformation takes time. Carrying the burdens of poverty, unemployment, and family struggles can lead to a loss of hope and the idea that change can only come from external aid. My mission is to accompany them in rediscovering their God-given abilities, encouraging them to believe that they possess the capacity to improve their lives when they unite, organize, and help one another.

To do this, I seek to build trust, unity, and leadership within self-help associations. Progress in these tasks can be slow and discouraging, yet these experiences continually remind me that genuine community development is not achieved overnight. It is nurtured through consistent presence, sincere dialogue, mutual respect, and unwavering commitment.

Through this mission, I have come to understand that the true measure of success is not the number of projects completed or the amount of assistance distributed. Rather, it is the number of lives empowered to become self-reliant, the families strengthened through cooperation, and the communities that learn to solve their own challenges together.

This journey has also transformed me personally. It has deepened my compassion by teaching me to see Christ in every person, especially those who are poor and marginalized. It has strengthened my humility by reminding me that authentic leadership begins with listening. It has reinforced the values of integrity, servant leadership, collaboration, and perseverance. Above all, it has taught me that lasting change happens when people are empowered not only economically but also spiritually and socially.

My mission in Missio Amare continually reminds me that service is a living expression of God’s love. In this mission I am guided by the values of compassion, integrity, collaboration, perseverance, and faith.  Although the journey is filled with challenges, every act of encouragement, every partnership formed, and every life transformed affirms that when people walk together in faith, hope, and solidarity, they become instruments of God’s mission of love and lasting human development.
